BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The tweet from Chadwick Boseman’s account announcing his death on Friday has become the most liked tweet of all time. Twitter made the announcement with the words: “Most liked Tweet ever. A tribute fit for a King. #WakandaForever”. Boseman’s verified account tweeted out a family statement confirming his death and revealing he was diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer in 2016, then battled the disease over the last four years as it advanced to Stage IV. It has received over 7.2 million likes. The previous record-holder was one from former president Barack Obama, which has 4.3 million likes.

★ It’s been eight years since David Blaine performed one of his famous outdoor stunts, but this week he returns with “Ascension”. Blaine’s plan is to float 18,000 feet, or nearly 3½ miles, into the sky carried by 52 helium-filled weather balloons, before releasing the balloons and parachuting back to earth. It’s a stunt that has been a decade in the making and required Blaine to complete 500 airplane jumps, become licensed for hot-air balloon piloting and learn to read wind patterns. The undertaking is ground-breaking enough to have been deemed a research and development project by the FAA. The event will stream this week on Blaine’s YouTube channel, with the day and time to be determined due to weather.

★ When “Ant-Man 3” eventually makes its way to theaters, stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will be sharing equal billing. Director Peyton Reed says that Rudd (who stars as Scott Lang/Ant-Man) and Lilly (Hope van Dyne/The Wasp) will share screen time and billing because “They’re a partnership, and she’s a very, very important part of that. Finding that balance in that movie, that’s very important to me because that’s very much a men’s playing field, historically, but that’s really, really changing now in a great way.”

★ Russell Crowe helped make an aspiring actor’s dream come true by donating money to pay for his education. Earlier this month, Harry Pritchard created a GoFundMe page, sharing that after three years of auditioning, he had finally been accepted to the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. But he wasn’t able to afford the tuition fee. Since then, Pritchard has raised his goal of over $18,000 — which included a $3,600 donation from Crowe, who wrote: “Congratulations Harry. Looking forward to hear of your success. Thank you to everyone who got involved and gave this young bloke a lift and a helping hand, you are all lovely and brilliant.”

• (***Check for dating, there could be more***) Katy Perry – In the days leading up to — and following – last Friday’s release of her new album “Smile”, she has dropped daily installments as part of her “Smile Video Series” on YouTube. So far, she’s shared videos for the songs ‘Never Really Over’, ‘Harleys in Hawaii’, ‘Cry About It Later’, ‘Tucked’ and ‘Champagne Problems’.
• Josh Groban — has been granted a five-year restraining order against an obsessed fan. This follows a temporary restraining order granted in June against Shawna Marie Laing, who had allegedly been ”sexually harassing and threatening the singer since he canceled a date with her” in 2011.
• Dave Grohl – accepted a drum challenge from a 10-year-old drumming prodigy– and put the ball back in her court. Nandi Bushell did a cover of Foo Fighter’s ‘Everlong’,” which Grohl matched on his daughter’s drum set, then dared Bushell to try a song he did with Them Crooked Vultures called ‘Dead End Friends’.
• Smashing Pumpkins – released 2 new songs from an upcoming new studio album. ‘Cyr’ and ‘The Color of Love’ arrived on Friday. No word on the album title or release date.
• Bryan Adams – has been forced to postpone a concert in Dusseldorf, Germany after a spike in coronavirus infections across Europe. “Give Live a Chance” was set to take place this Friday with an audience of 12,000, pared down from the venue’s capacity of 66,000. Live Nation says the concert will be rescheduled for later in the year.
• Blake Shelton – He and Gwen Stefani finally know when they will be returning to TV. After a delay, an Oct. 19 premiere date for Season 19 of “The Voice” has been announced. Judges John Legend and Kelly Clarkson will also be back, as will host Carson Daly.
• Luke Combs — shared a teaser of what many believe to be one of the new songs on his upcoming deluxe version of the “What You See Ain’t Always What You Get” album. He revealed a sample of a song called ‘Forever After All’ with a caption that made it clear the song was inspired by his wife, Nicole Hocking, whom he married last month.

CHEAP QUESTIONS:
Over half of adults say the pandemic has helped teach them how to be smart with their money. A survey of 2,000 Americans compared to a similar one conducted two years ago found that the number of adults who feel “very smart” with their money has risen from just 42% in 2018 to 51% in 2020. Two thirds of participants said the pandemic has turned them into a ‘frugal’ person. Some of the ways people indicated they are pinching pennies lately included growing their own vegetables, switching to one-ply toilet paper and eating lots of leftovers.
(One ply? That’s a rip off!)
(Also, for three months, there was no way to SPEND it!)
(This is what I’ve been training for my whole life!)

NOT ‘SINGLE-USE’ ANYMORE:
A California highway has become the first state road in the U.S. made entirely from recycled plastic. It looks like an ordinary newly-paved road, but the mile-long stretch of Highway 162 near Oroville is made from more than 150,000 single-use plastic bottles. The sustainable landscaping company TechniSoil partnered with the state to repave the 3-lane road, which is expected to be 2-3 times more durable than traditional asphalt pavement. The procedure also generates 90% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than a ‘normal’ road construction operation.
(Pretty soon, Hollywood won’t be the only place in the state where everything is plastic!)
(If plastic bottles make a road more durable, does that mean it’s actually environmentally friendly to toss them out the window? Asking for a friend…)

PARTYING ‘TIL THE COWS COME HOME:
There was a music festival in Britain on the weekend, and it wasn’t a “virtual” one. The island of Guernsey, whose cows are universally accepted as producing the best milk in the world, recorded its last case of COVID-19 more than 100 days ago. And with no visiting performers on the bill, no social-distancing measures were required at the 44th Vale Earth Fair. This year’s festival played out over 12 hours in front of up to 3,000 islanders and featured 70 all-local acts on several stages. Sunday’s festivities also included spoken word, live arts, and a children’s corner. With university students still home, and teenagers sticking around who would normally be piling onto ferries headed into the UK’s major festival weekend, the thinking was that this year’s homegrown edition might be one of the biggest Earth Fairs ever.
(Don’t you hate it when your kids are at the same party you’re at, so you can’t act like an idiot?)

BEDTIME:
⇒ A nice afternoon nap is a great chance to take a break, recharge, and wake up feeling reinvigorated. But unfortunately, new research by the European Society of Cardiology has a warning for habitual nappers. They found that you should keep your naps under an hour, because sleeping longer in the daytime is associated with a 30% higher risk of death from all causes and a 34% higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. (Of course, my family has a much higher risk of death if I DON’T nap…)
⇒ Science says that night owls are smarter than early birds. A study of U.S. Air Force recruits aimed to explore the relationship between intelligence and sleep scheduling. After assessing the 420 participants, they discovered that night owls are more likely to have higher intelligence scores. The conclusion isn’t that that sleeping late makes you smarter, but that a higher IQ leads to night owl tendencies. (But they’re still not smart enough to be awake at the most beautiful time of the day…)

DID YOU KNOW?
When are we most likely to “lose” or break our cellphone? A study published in the Journal of Marketing Research found it’s typically around the time when a new model is announced. Statistics suggest many people unconsciously become more careless with their phones to justify upgrading to a new one “guilt free.”

• “V-J Day”, the anniversary of the 1945 formal surrender of Japan aboard USS Missouri, marking the end of World War II

• “First Day of Spring” in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, so designated by tradition, not any relation to the Vernal Equinox.

• “No Rhyme Nor Reason Day”, a celebration of words that don’t rhyme with any other words (aka refractory rhymes), ie: angel, month, orange, purple, silver.

• “Building Code Staff Appreciation Day”. It’s like “Valentine’s Day” for planning board workers.

• “American Chess Day”, often called “The Game of Kings,” you can play chess the good old-fashioned way with another player in person, or on the computer with opponents from all over the world.

• “Pink Cadillac Day”, They have an iconic place in American culture, most notably because of Elvis Presley. He mentioned a pink Cadillac in his first charting single, ‘Baby Let’s Play House’ (1955), and bought his first pink Cadillac around the same time.

TODAY’S SLICE OF BS:
➠ It appears that ratings for the “VMAs” were again down this year.  (“I knew it! . . . just not enough Kanye!” …responded Kanye.)
➠ BBC America has announced the 13th season of “Dr. Who” will debut ‘early January 2021’. (Dr. Who travels back in time to prevent catastrophes from happening. In January, they try to stop MTV from roaming the beaches of New Jersey in search of a reality series.)
➠ A “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” revival is in the works and could star the original cast if they’re available. (So, it will star the original cast.)
➠ This year, Starbucks has released the popular Pumpkin Spice Latte about one month earlier than usual. (There’s something about Pumpkin Spice that’s so addictive. The only way to break the habit is by adding a Pumpkin Patch…)
➠ Lamborghini has announced the release date of their new 2021 Aventador SVJ Xago Edition. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price is just over $600,000. (And they promise if you buy one, you’ll instantly stop being a balding, middle-aged, impotent loser…)
