More From the Sheet House!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
TONIGHT is the 2-hour premiere of CBS-TV’s “The Amazing Race: Family Edition”, featuring 10 teams of 4 family members each racing round-the-world for the $1 million payoff . . . TONIGHT on NBC-TV’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit “, actress Lynda Carter (TV’s “Wonder Woman” 1976-79) & model-turned-actress Estella Warren (Peterborough ON) guest star as a mother & daughter, then return TOMORROW night to play the same characters on the original “Law & Order” . . .  23-year-old actress Sienna Miller (Jude Law’s on & off girl) is being lined up as the next ‘Bond girl’, but there’s no word yet whether she’ll be an evil temptress or sultry sidekick in “Casino Royale” (due to start shooting in JANUARY in the Czech Republic) . . . Cops in Baltimore MD are investigating a claim by a group of underage teens that Paris Hilton gave them marijuana & a bottle of Jack Daniels to loosen them up for an appearance on LAST SEASON’s “The Simple Life: Interns” (what, they just remembered?) . . . Oprah Winfrey will produce a Broadway musical version of “The Color Purple” to open this DECEMBER, based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, and she’ll contribute more than $1 million toward the $10-million production costs (Oprah scored a ‘Best Supporting Actress’ Oscar nomination for Steven Spielberg’s 1985 movie version) . . . Former bigscreen buddies Robert Redford & Paul Newman (“The Sting”, “Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid”) are set to reunite – but don’t get too excited – it’s just for a 6-part TV series called “Iconoclasts” on the Sundance Channel, in which Redford interviews Newman about his life & career . . . Hearth-throb actor Orlando Bloom is dismissing rumors that he’s engaged to actress-girlfriend Kate Bosworth (young girls still have hope) . . . And Mr Jessica Simpson, Nick Lachey, is reportedly being wooed to sign a modeling contract with Abercrombie & Fitch (he could certainly use a job).

YOU MIGHT BE A MONTY PYTHON FAN IF …
• You skip through the house making horse sounds with coconuts.
• You think anyone with fresh fruit is dangerous.
• You’re terrified of rabbits.
• You suddenly change the subject by saying “And now for something completely different …”
• You really want to be a lumberjack.

THE DOLPHIN SUPREMACY:
This may be the oddest story to emerge in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Armed dolphins, trained by the US military to shoot terrorists and pinpoint spies underwater, may be missing in the Gulf of Mexico. Experts who’ve studied the US Navy’s dolphin training exercises claim the 36 mammals could be carrying toxic dart guns, putting divers and surfers at risk of attack. The US Navy admits it’s been training dolphins for military purposes but refuses to confirm any are missing. (“We know you’re upset, Flipper. Let’s just bring you in and we’ll work it all out …”)

I REMEMBER BACK IN THE DAY:
A new study published in the “American Journal of Preventive Medicine” shows that kids who walk or bike to school are more active throughout the day than those who travel to school by car or bus. Researchers say the study supports the value of walk-to-school programs as a way to boost physical activity. (Unfortunately, also kidnaping.)

WORLDWIDE BODY LANGUAGE:
Ask listeners to try out some of these actions while commuting this morning …
• In Paraguay, tilting the head backward signifies ‘I forgot’.
• In Thailand, pointing with one finger is considered rude and is only done when pointing to objects or animals, never humans.
• In Japan, the ‘OK’ sign, where you form a circle with your thumb and forefinger, is interpreted as the symbol for money, a way of asking for change. The same ‘OK’ sign in Greece signifies a body orifice and is considered rude.
• When entering or departing a Russian home, it is considered very bad form to shake hands across the threshold.
• In France, if you form a circle with your thumb and forefinger and place it over your nose, it indicates a person is drunk.
• When leaving someone’s home in Sweden, you should wait until you get to the doorway to step outside before putting on your coat. To do so earlier suggests you are eager to leave.
• In Germany, shaking hands with the other hand in a pocket is considered impolite.
• In Lebanon, to signal ‘yes’ you nod your head as we do, but to signal ‘no’ you point your head
sharply upward and raise your eyebrows.

DID YOU KNOW?
Failing to clean off your desk before lunch could increase your chances of getting sick.

FULLA FASHION:
Over the past 2 years, ‘Barbie’ dolls have all but disappeared from toys stores in the Middle East. In their place is a dark-eyed doll called ‘Fulla’ who, according to creator NewBoy Design Studio of Syria, has ‘Muslim values’. She roughly shares Barbie’s size and proportions, but although she has an extensive and beautiful wardrobe (sold separately), she comes wearing a black abaya (head-to-toe robe) & matching head scarf. In Damascus, ‘Fulla’ sells for about $16 (US) and comes with her own tiny prayer rug … in pink felt. Girls who want to dress alike can buy a matching, girl-sized prayer rug and cotton scarf sets, all in pink. And (like ‘Barbie’ elsewhere), other products with the brand name abound, including ‘Fulla’ breakfast cereal, chewing gum, and bicycles – all in trademark ‘Fulla pink’. (But so far, ‘Fulla’ has yet to find her ‘Ibrahim’.)

MOST PRESTIGIOUS PROFESSIONS:
It’s not about fame or money; the jobs most of us see as having ‘high prestige’ are those that do good work which benefits society. That in mind, the professions with the greatest prestige are …
10. Architects (voted most prestigious by 27%)
9. Engineers (34%)
8. Clergy (36%)
7. Police Officers (40%)
6. Teachers (47%)
5. Military Officers (49%)
4. Nurses (50%)
3. Doctors (54%)
2. Scientists (56%)
1. Firefighters (56%)
And the job with the least prestige? A tie between Lawyers … and Entertainers!

GET THE POINT, ELSIE?
A Fort Lauderdale FL veterinarian was shocked when an X-ray showed that a 6-month-old St Bernard puppy had somehow swallowed – a 13-inch serrated knife! ‘Elsie’ apparently had the blade between her esophagus and stomach for about 4 days before it was removed LAST WEEK in a 2-hour operation. She has an 8-inch scar, but otherwise has fully recovered and is back with her family. (This dog should have an act in Vegas!)

BULL’S BITS . . .
BS WAYS MEN HAVE BECOME WUSSES:

Yeah, they’re all sensitive and stuff but today’s guys have also become a bunch of sissies and whiners because …
• They groom just like women, from manicures to waxing.
• They talk about their ‘feelings’ because they’ve been told they must ‘express’ themselves.
• They embrace unmanly trends … think metrosexual, meditating vegans. Being ‘macho’ has become a dirty word.
• They don’t know how to build or fix anything. Most guys don’t even own a hammer anymore.
• They are afraid to tell someone off.
• They can’t handle criticism. Then they quit too easily.
• They constantly complain – the coffee is too cold, the service is not fast enough, the distance is too far.
• They’ve taken over many traditionally female roles, ie: stay-at-home dad, male nurse.
• They watch too much “Oprah”.
• They’re whipped!

BS BLATANT JOKE:
Some people are afraid of heights. Not me. I’m afraid of widths.

BS PHONE STARTERS:
• Do 8 of the same items count as 1 or as 8 at the supermarket express checkout?
• How long do you give Ashton & Demi’s January-December marriage?

BS WATER COOLER QUESTION:
Today’s Question: 65% of us do THIS at least 4 times a week at home.
Answer to Give Out Next Show: Weigh ourselves.

BS DEEP THOUGHT:
Everyone has a right to be stupid. Some just abuse the privilege.
