BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ John Legend has joined the coveted list of EGOT winners. The musician added a Creative Arts Emmy on Sunday for ‘Outstanding Variety Special’ for his work as a producer on “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert”. EGOT is the acronym for artists who have won awards at the Emmys, the Grammys, the Oscars and the Tonys. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice also achieved EGOT status at the ceremony, bringing the total number of EGOT winners to 15.

★ The long-time CEO of CBS, Les Moonves, is on the way out of his position as head of the network after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. This comes on the heels of a second New Yorker article by Ronan Farrow where six additional women accused Moonves of sexual misconduct. Moonves has worked at CBS since 1995, where he first served as president of CBS Entertainment. He served as CEO of CBS Television from ’98 to 2003, and was eventually bumped up to chairman and CEO of the entire company in 2003. He’s responsible for greenlighting series like “CSI”, “Without a Trace’, “NCIS”, “Survivor”, “Cold Case” and many others.

★ Since her major health scare, Shannen Doherty says she has a brand-new perception of life. She says: “I hate to be that person who goes, ‘Oh my God, the sky’s so blue all of a sudden.’ But you truly start noticing more things around you, and appreciating everything. She also feels that now “is the best time in the world for me to be an actor because I’m so in touch with every single emotion”. She announced in April 2017 that her cancer was in remission following a mastectomy.

★ Three months after Kate Spade’s death, a new line of clothing and accessories for the Kate Spade brand was shown at New York Fashion Week. And even though the designer left her namesake label in 2006, that didn’t stop the brand from paying tribute to her at it’s fashion show. Each guest’s seat had a card that read, “She left a little sparkle everywhere she went” on the front, and “In loving memory, 1962-2018” on the back.

★ Timothée Chalamet signed burgers and peaches on the red carpet at TIFF on the weekend. The peach appeared from TIFF employees, who handed the fruit to Chalamet during an interview, a reference to the infamous scene in “Call Me By Your Name”. He played along, signing it and handing it to a fan on the sidelines. As he walked the rest of the carpet, he stopped to autograph a cheeseburger held out in front of him by what turned out to be an employee from a marketing agency. The Creative Director of the agency said: “I guess the moral of the story is if you want to get a star’s autograph, presenting something more than just a piece of paper is always a good way of doing it.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Lady Gaga — says artists on the rise need compassion and kindness, and that fame changes the people around them more than the performers themselves. She does, however, admit that “fame is very unnatural” and says that artists’ management teams should take more care “with the human spirit.”
• David Guetta – says he vowed to change his life after Avicii died. The DJ says Avicii’s death by suicide in April made him realize he needs to ”reorganize” his own career and personal life to avoid slipping into a depression.
• Kanye West – John Legend says Ye is serious about running for U.S. President. In an interview, Legend said that West has mentioned his interest in running for president to him “multiple times” and speculated that he may run as an independent.
• John Mayer – has shared a tribute to late rapper Mac Miller on social media. Mayer Instagrammed his memory of working with Miller on the song ‘Small Worlds’ and wrote that “This was going to be Mac’s year. He made a huge leap in his music. That is incredibly hard to do, to evolve and get more focused while your career’s already underway. You do not get there without hard work, and Mac had put the work in.”
• Queen – According to researchers at the University of Missouri, the happiest song in the world is their 1979 hit ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’. Scientists created the ‘happiness formula’ by studying 126 songs from a 50-year period, picked after surveying a group of 2,000 British people about their favorite tunes.
• Olivia Newton-John — has confirmed that she’s battling cancer for the third time. She says that doctors discovered a tumor at the base of her spine last year. She has undergone radiation therapy and is also pursuing natural remedies. The 69 year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992. When a minor car accident in 2013 led to the discovery that the disease had returned, she decided to not speak publicly about it.
• The Rascals — Rock & Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Gene Cornish is in good spirits at a Billings, Montana hospital after collapsing during a concert. He is expected to be released on Wednesday and is said to be eager to get back on stage. No word on what caused the 74 year-old to collapse.
• Diana Ross — doesn’t like reality television. She is featured in her son Evan’s upcoming E! reality series “Ashlee + Evan” alongside his wife Ashlee Simpson, but Evan admits that Diana probably won’t be tuning in to watch the final product because as he puts it, “I don’t think she really watches any reality TV”.
• Darius Rucker – waited until his Detroit concert date on Friday to pay homage to Aretha Franklin. He told the audience in Franklin’ hometown that, “When I was a kid, only two people ruled my world—Al Green and Aretha Franklin.” He also sang her 1967 hit, ‘I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)’, a song that Garth Brooks covered in 2013 (replacing “man” with the gender-neutral “somebody”).
• Jason Aldean – The Macon, Ga., native returned to his hometown on Sept. 6 to headline his third annual Concert for the Kids. This year’s concert raised $621,390, bringing the grand total to more than $1.8 million over the past three years for the construction of the region’s only dedicated pediatric hospital.

• “Hearts Beat Loud” (PG-13/Drama): Widower and aging Brooklyn hipster Frank starts a band with his teenage daughter Sam just before she leaves home to attend college in California. • “The Watcher in the Woods” (R-Rated/Horror): A woman whose daughter vanished in the English countryside more than 20 years ago is distraught when a new family moves in nearby with a daughter who’s identical to her own. WHAT ARE YOU WEARING UNDER THERE?
I suppose that in today’s climate of equality, this was bound to happen. What I can’t imagine is too many women liking this on their man. A company called “HommeMystere” is selling lacy bras and matching knickers for the male who wants to wear something a little sexy under his clothes. The bras don’t come with actual cup sizes, but some padded options are available. Sizes range from small to extra large. If that’s not enough, men can also order silk nighties, baby dolls and bodysuits. And according to the website, it’s not just the men getting a kick out of the soft, luxurious underwear – the women love it too. Prices start at US$10 and range to $50 for bodysuits.

(But what price do you put on your dignity?)
(I can’t wait to go bra shopping with the guys before poker on Friday night!)
(Well, everyone always said that when guys buy lingerie, it’s for themselves…)

10,000 SMALL STEPS FOR MAN . . .
We’ve been told for years that we should aim to take 10,000 steps per day. An entire industry of pedometers, step-counters and fitness apps has been built on the presumption that taking 10,000 steps throughout the course of a day is an important building block to physical health. The problem? 10,000 steps is a completely arbitrary figure, one that originates from a Japanese marketing campaign in the mid-60s. In an attempt to capitalize on the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, a company designed the world’s first wearable step-counter, a device called a manpo-kei, which translates as “10,000-step meter”. One of the problems with the 10,000-steps-a-day goal is that it doesn’t take into account the intensity of exercise. Getting out of breath and increasing your heart rate may be more important than the number of steps taken. Researchers are currently conducting studies to see whether people who take 10,000 steps a day merely by puttering around their house achieve the same health benefits as those who do so by brisk walking or playing sport. Some experts say that a pace of a minimum of 100 steps per minute is required for exercise to be beneficial.
(100 steps per minute? I couldn’t do 100 steps a minute if I was falling down them!)
(I don’t suppose it is going to work in my favor that I’m that rare person who is able to get out of breath and increase my heart rate while puttering around the house!)
(Do you ever do something, then realize that you forgot your step-counter, and then you’re mad because you “wasted” all that effort?)

DOLLAR STORE RIPOFFS:
☞ Medicine and vitamins: When it comes to your health, stick to name brands for medicine and vitamins from stores you know. Those sold at dollar stores may be counterfeit or expired.
☞ Tools: Avoid buying tools at the dollar store as they are often cheaply made, which means they will break or, even worse, may result in injuries. (Trust me, if I’m using tools, I’m getting injured no matter WHERE they came from!)
☞ Baby food: While most baby food sold at the dollar store is just fine, just skip it. Some may be expired, and it’s generally not much cheaper than the baby food sold at well-known retailers.
☞ Toys: Toys sold at the dollar store often break easily and may contain hazardous materials. Plus, the flimsy design may mean broken pieces which could easily be swallowed. (Try telling that to the kid having a meltdown in aisle #4!)
☞ Batteries: If you’re buying batteries in bulk, you can find better deals at larger retailers. (And brands that you’ve heard of!)
