★ While Meghan Markle’s style remains enviable, it doesn’t come cheap—just like her stunning engagement ring from Prince Harry. If getting your hands on a triple-diamond ring like Meghan’s, which could cost up to $350,000, is out of the question, Buckingham Palace has a more affordable alternative. On Monday, a fan noticed the palace is selling engagement ring knockoffs for $40. Made up of three sparkling crystals that are set on set on metal, it appears they would be perfect for a Meghan Halloween costume or even as an accessory that could be paired with the souvenir shop’s matching earrings and necklace.
(Are we sure Harry bought the real thing?)

★ Season 15 of “Grey’s Anatomy” premieres tonight, and star Ellen Pompeo hinted in a recent interview that the show could be ending after Season 16. Pompeo said that she isn’t ready to make a formal announcement, but she feels that they have told most of the stories they can tell. She is one of four actors who has been on the show since it premiered in 2004 — and her contract is up at the end of Season 16. Pompeo says that it’s about time to mix things up, and she is looking for a change.

★ Netflix has announced “Making a Murderer” will be returning for Part 2 on October 19. The streaming giant has confirmed the Emmy Award-winning documentary series, which followed Steven Avery’s journey in the much-talked-about first season, will be returning to the Midwest to continue the investigation.

★ Andrew Lincoln shocked fans of “The Walking Dead” in July when he confirmed rumors that he will leave the show during the upcoming ninth season. But while his days as Rick Grimes are numbered, he may not be finished with the series just yet. He plans to return in the 10th season, only this time behind the camera. Lincoln says he will be back to “shadow a director”, with an eye toward directing an episode in the future. The new season of Walking Dead premieres Sunday, Oct. 7.

★ Lindsay Lohan’s mother Dina Lohan has filed for bankruptcy. In documents filed in federal bankruptcy court, Dina declared she was over $1.5 million in debt. The largest debt listed was $1,554,240 to mortgage company PennyMac Loans. The house was put in foreclosure earlier this year and was set to be auctioned off this week, but her bankruptcy filing will put an end to the foreclosure. Lindsay had previously tried to stave off the bank, giving her mom $40,000, in October 2012.

• Lady Gaga – Says the fact that she was bullied in high school helped her understand how Ally, her “A Star is Born” character, felt. She says: “My character in this film, she doesn’t believe in herself at all. She’s very jaded by the music industry and she’s given up on herself.” The film comes out on October 5.
• Nicki Minaj — has made good on her promise to pay “Cosby Show” actor Geoffrey Owens $25,000 after he was job shamed for working at Trader Joe’s. He, however, has chosen to donate it to an actor’s fund in memory of Earle Hyman — who played Cosby’s father, ‘Russell’, on “The Cosby Show”.
• Kanye West – has trademarked “YANDHI” to market everything from jewelry to underwear. “Yandhi” is also expected to be the name of his new album, expected Sept. 29. (Yesus.)
• Pink Floyd — Drummer Nick Mason says that he isn’t waiting by the phone for colleagues Roger Waters and David Gilmour to call him about a reunion. Mason made his lighthearted comment during a show with his band, Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets, telling the audience that he’d “finally given up waiting for that phone call from Roger or David.” They last performed together in 2005.
• Metallica – their 1991 self-titled album has made chart history by becoming one of only four albums to spend more than 500 weeks on the Billboard 200. The “Black” album, currently at #147, scored its 500th non-consecutive week to achieve the rare feat alongside Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of The Moon” (937 weeks), Bob Marley and The Wailers’ 1984 collection “Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley And The Wailers” (539 weeks) and Journey’s 1998 “Greatest Hits” package (539 weeks).
• Garth Brooks — has disinvited “America’s Got Talent” finalist Michael Ketterer from appearing at his October concert at Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana following the arrest of the aspiring singer for domestic violence. Brooks will become the first musician to perform at Notre Dame’s iconic college football stadium on October 20th.
• People’s Choice Awards — The finalists for 2018 have been announced. In addition to the Country Artist of the Year category that features Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Thomas Rhett, Urban picked up a nomination in the all-genre Male Artist of the Year category, where he’ll face Bruno Mars, Drake, Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes. The People’s Choice Awards will be televised on Nov. 11.

By now the phrase ‘swipe right’ has become a part of the lexicon of the English language. And from what I’ve been told, the act of swiping right on…oh, say…the Tinder app, is a very addictive thing. According to Tinder executive Jonathan Badeen, that is completely by design. He admits basing the ‘swipe’ on a psychological experiment that transformed pigeons into ‘gambling fanatics’. In 1948, A Harvard behavioral psychologist proved that pigeons were superstitious by placing eight of them into cages and dispensing food pellets to them every 15 seconds, regardless of their behavior. He found that six of eight pigeons developed consistent rituals, one banging its head in the corner of the cage while another spun around, all believing that their rituals were earning them more food. Badeen, the guy from Tinder, made the connection between the gambling pigeons and the people who would one day use his app, saying that the bird doesn’t know when he will get food, so he keeps on pecking, “He might get it, he might not. That’s the whole swiping mechanism. You swipe, you might get a match, you might not. And then you’re just like excited to play the game.”
(Ah. But do the pigeons spend all their disposable income buying dinner for another pigeon that it has no chemistry with, and never talking to them again?)

LIE DETECTOR:
Yes, honesty is still the best policy. But maybe you’ll get a little farther in a job interview by s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g the truth just a bit. On the other hand, you might get caught. How? SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk asks one simple interview question to catch a candidate’s bluff: “What were the most difficult problems you faced and how did you solve them?” The tech billionaire claims that this “very important” question goes a long way to truly reveal the role an applicant had at a project or company. From this question, he can tell whether the applicant was truly the one who took ownership and found solutions to a problem, or if he was simply a member on a team that did so. As Musk puts it, “People [who] really solved the problem, they know exactly how they solved it. They know the little details. These candidates are able to talk in-depth about the struggles that they faced and the strategies they used.
(But on the other hand, how much honesty can a guy who is facing a criminal probe into one of his Tweets expect?)

CRAZY PARENTING: THE NEXT WAVE:
Here is the latest negative label for people who aren’t raising their kids they way you would: “Lawnmower parenting”. You’ve heard of helicopter parenting, free-range, tiger, and maybe elephant parenting. The latest is Lawnmower parenting, which has become a thing thanks to a viral post by a Weareteachers.com member, an online community for teachers. One anonymous member wrote in an essay that lawnmower parents “mow down all of their children’s challenges, discomforts and struggles”. The example he or she used was this: “Being called to the office, expecting to retrieve a student’s forgotten meal money or inhaler. Instead, a sheepish parent was dropping off an expensive water bottle after repeated texts from a child. Water fountains exist all over the school.” Don’t be a lawnmower parent.
(No fear of that. My kids won’t go anywhere NEAR a lawnmower!)
