We’re Taking this Sheet to a Whole New Level!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Kim Kardashian and “Monsters” actor Cooper Koch reportedly visited Erik and Lyle Menéndez in prison, a day after Erik released a statement slamming the new Ryan Murphy series as a “dishonest portrayal.” TMZ says Kardashian — who has positioned herself as a criminal justice advocate and starred in Murphy’s “American Horror Story” — stopped by San Diego County’s Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility to speak to a group of 40 inmates, including the Menéndez brothers, about prison reform. Erik Menendez, who, with his brother Lyle, was convicted of the 1989 killing of their parents, called Ryan Murphy’s retelling of their story “inaccurate” and “dishonest”, and claimed it was made with “bad intent.”

★ Days after Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested on federal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution, a video allegedly showing his detainment has been made public. In the footage, a man who is purportedly Combs walks into a hotel lobby with a group of people and is immediately led away by 2 men. In another scene, 2 men lead Combs back out the lobby doors while his hands are behind his back, seemingly in handcuffs. It took place last Monday at the Park Hyatt New York, where Combs had been staying, as plans were made for his surrender to authorities. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/25jcwkmw

★ In a surprise twist, the Bots were squeezed by “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” at the weekend box office. “Transformers One” was expecting a domestic opening of at least $30-35 million, but the latest estimates have it at about $25 million, about one million dollars behind the Beetlejuice sequel, in its third weekend. The weekend’s 2 other new releases fared even worse: the Halle Berry pic “Never Let Go” came 4th with about $4 million, while “The Substance” starring Demi Moore, is projected to have opened to less than $3 million, for a 6th-place finish.

★ Gil Ramirez’s time on “The Golden Bachelorette” will be shrinking. The contestant allegedly has a history of stalking, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE. Ramirez’s ex-girlfriend was granted a temporary restraining order against him on June 11 — just a few days before production on the series’ inaugural season began. A source said that learning about Ramirez’s past, The Golden Bachelorette “further edited his already limited screen time and minimized him in promotional assets moving forward.”

★ It took Ridley Scott 20 years to return to the Roman Colosseum with “Gladiator II”, but he’s already planning his third trip to ancient Rome. When asked about a different next project, the 86-year-old filmmaker replied: “I’d rather get on into Gladiator III. There’s already an idea.” He added that he’s taking inspiration from “The Godfather Part II” for the next story. Gladiator II opens Nov. 22 and arrives 20 years after the first Gladiator film, which won 5 Oscars, including best picture and best actor for Russell Crowe.

• Lady Gaga – shared a cryptic teaser on Friday. On Instagram, she posted a grainy image of white streaky text over a red background, reading: “I’m ready for my interview.” Fans aren’t sure what to make of the message, or even whether it references new music or her upcoming role in “Joker: Folie à Deux”. She has been working on both over the past year. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ycx4kyyv
• Peter Frampton – low-key blamed Megadeth for the cancelation of both acts’ shows at the Richmond (Virginia) Raceway last week. While performing in Philadelphia, Frampton said: “So, we had a show canceled the other day because of weather. And also, MEGADETH did a soundcheck…a couple of days before our show, and there was structural damage to the stage.”
• Pink Floyd — David Gilmour has contributed guitar to a cover of the band’s classic ‘Comfortably Numb’ by Ice T’s heavy metal group Body Count. Gilmour quote: “It astonishes me that a tune I wrote almost 50 years ago is back with this great new approach. They’ve made it relevant again.” It is available now via digital outlets.
• Eagles – Friday, they kicked of their 5-month residency at Las Vegas Sphere, a part of the group’s “The Long Goodbye Tour”. GRASSHOPPER FOR DINNER?
By now, you’ve heard of the experts who are trying to convince us that a key to helping relieve food security issues could be that we accept the idea of eating crickets. But according to new research, the next superfood just might be…grasshoppers! Researchers in Cameroon say they’ve discovered some surprising health benefits of a grasshopper-based diet. Such as? Eating grasshoppers could be the secret to better sleep, healthier hair — and even a stronger libido. Now, to be clear, their studies were carried out on rats, but they found other benefits as well: such as consistent weight maintenance. Apparently, grasshoppers are rich in essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals, which provide plenty of nutrients that support various bodily functions.
(This makes the idea of eating crickets seem so…2022!)
(So, if I were to order ‘grasshopper’ with my meal, would that make it an “insect-a-side”?)

HONORING PLAYTHINGS:
The National Toy Hall of Fame has revealed the 12 finalists under consideration for entry into the sacred hall this year. For the first time, the Rochester NY institution is “floating” the idea of inducting that classic item of interest to all young children, the balloon. Other first-time contenders include the trampoline and the party game Apples to Apples. Other possible inductees include Choose Your Own Adventure gamebooks, Hess Toy Trucks, Sequence, The Pokémon Trading Card Game, Phase 10, Transformers action figures, and My Little Pony figures, which are up for the honor for a 7th time. A panel of expert judges and the public will vote on which of the finalists will be inducted in November. LINK: toyhalloffame.org
(I really hope the “Barrel of Monkeys” is already in the hall of fame, because it kinda set the standard. After all, what’s more fun than that?)
(That’s the one critical difference between the Toy Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: The Toy Hall of Fame actually inducts toys…)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ A UPS driver who rescued a grandmother, now considers her ‘family’. Raheem Cooper was passing through his normal route in Valdosta GA when he saw an elderly woman collapsed on her driveway. After calling 911, Cooper stayed with the woman, all the while calling her ‘grandmother.’ The woman was taken to hospital where emergency brain surgery was performed. According to Coble’s granddaughter, “Five days after the surgery, she hadn’t talked at all. And when he came into the room, she brightened up and actually pushed herself up and gave him a hug.” Cooper also started a GoFundMe to assist family members visiting from far away, and brings her treats each week to the hospital, where she is recovering. LINK: https://youtu.be/xwHIbrHvFOY
➢ A couple who planned separate marriage proposals to each other both got down on one knee at the same time. Rachel Hundertmark had been planning for months to propose to her partner Rashad Polk at a Modest Mouse concert, after sharing their first kiss at a show by the same act in 2021. In June, they headed to the gig with Rachel’s 16-year-old daughter Jasmine. Rachel had a ring in her pocket — with no idea that Rashad had the same plan. Both had confided in Jasmine that they were going to propose, but the teen managed to keep the secrets. The Baltimore mom dropped to one knee first, and Rashad burst into laughter before doing the same thing – all while Jasmine caught the heart-warming moment on camera. According to Rachel: “We were so shocked at what happened that neither of us thought to actually say yes.” LINK: https://youtu.be/OKYBgqkHofQ

DID YOU KNOW?
At least 1.5 BILLION golf balls are lost in the US each year, according to Found Golf Balls CEO Shaun Shienfield, whose company recovers and resells millions of lost balls across the US and Canada. Meanwhile, a course manager for the Danish Golf Union — which has researched the sport’s environmental impact — said “the worldwide figure could easily exceed 3-5 billion golf balls lost each year.” (I use a ball that sends out a GPS signal, so it’s impossible to lose. Where did I get it? I found it!)
