Bully For You!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Daniel Craig says he doesn’t think there should be a female James Bond, but hopes instead to see a woman lead her own, similar franchise. Craig is about to debut in his final run as the legendary spy in “No Time To Die”, out Sept. 30, and now he’s thinking about the future of the franchise in his absence. For years, there have been calls to see a woman take on the lead, but in a recent interview, he said: “Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?” Recently, rumors have circulated that “No Time To Die” will end with actress Lashana Lynch being named the next 007. She has been confirmed to play an agent named Nomi who will work alongside Bond in the latest film.

★ ‘Jessica Rabbit’ is no longer a victim, after Disney gave its Roger Rabbit theme park ride a revamp. The cartoon character – the seductive wife of ‘Roger Rabbit’ – has been removed from the opening scene of the Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin ride at Disneyland in California, where she appeared trapped in the trunk of a car. Disneyland announced recently that following refurbishment, Jessica Rabbit had been removed from the car trunk scene and replaced with barrels of the film’s infamous cartoon-destroying “dip”, a sickly green, chemical concoction seen in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.”

★ A “Pitch Perfect” series has been ordered at Peacock with Adam Devine onboard to reprise his role from the film franchise. The series is set several years after the events of the films. Devine will return as ‘Bumper Allen’, who moves to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin. “Pitch Perfect” debuted in 2012, with the third and final film released in 2017. The three movies grossed nearly $600 million combined.

★ Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are set to make their first public appearance since welcoming baby Lilibet in June. They’ll travel to New York City this weekend to take part in the Global Citizen Live event at Central Park’s Great Lawn. They’re expected to make speeches during their appearance, in which they will urge world leaders to continue to make COVID-19 vaccines available to everyone, regardless of their economic situation.

SHOOTING THE BULL

McOSYSTEM:
McDonald’s Happy Meal toys are getting a major makeover. This week, the company announced its plans to make every toy it distributes around the world more environmentally sustainable by 2025. To do so, McDonald’s is working closely with its supply chain to use renewable, recycled or certified materials. The fast-food giant is shooting for a 90% reduction in virgin plastic – or new material – within the next 4 years. What can kids expect from the newly updated Happy Meal boxes? The company says it will keep the “fun” in Happy Meal toys, by working with suppliers, families, play experts and engineers to come up with innovative ideas — like interactive games, customizable crafts and build-your-own construction projects — which may be interesting to adults as well.
(Happy Meal toys aren’t interesting to adults now? Asking for a friend…)
(When they come up with a way to make the drive-thru environmentally friendly, let me know…)
(But when you think about it, they’ve been recycling the same old ‘movie tie-in’ toy ideas for years…)

DÉCOR RATES:
Here are the next things that are going to be way more expensive thanks to the ongoing global supply chain mess: Christmas trees. And Christmas decorations. Some large sellers of artificial trees say they are increasing their prices by 25% or more this season due to hikes of as much as 500% in shipping costs from China. With the festive season around the corner, suppliers of seasonal decor are also anxious about having enough products on hand to meet demand. Some sellers say while they expect shoppers to be ready to spend on decorations after another challenging year in a pandemic, if there is too much demand, there could be shortages because of shipping delays. And with shortages, price increases naturally follow. One major supplier says it is trying to limit price increases to “under 20%”.
(You’re telling me that some people actually buy decorations BEFORE Christmas, not after, when they’re on sale?)
(Well, I can tell you this: There’s NEVER been a shortage of Christmas decorations at our place. Thanks to a certain someone, anytime after Thanksgiving, it looks like Christmas threw up in there!)

KIDSMART:
Most parents think their kids are smarter than they were growing up. A survey of 2,000 people with children between ages 5-14 looked at how moms and dads view the differences between their learning habits and their children’s. It found that parents think kids today are luckier than they were growing up. And 65% think learning was boring when they were kids for many reasons — including not having the option to learn from home. OnePoll researchers also found that 58% of parents think it was difficult for them to stay engaged while learning as a child because of how they were taught in school. The most disliked methods of learning adults remember include memorizing information (38%), reading aloud (37%), and filling out worksheets or workbooks (28%). 70% of today’s parents believe that education methods are more entertaining today, so children are more engaged, and absorb key concepts faster than they did.
(Not me. I just know that my kids are WAAAY smarter than me!)
(On the other hand, when I was their age, I at least knew how to make a collect phone call!)
(Hey! I didn’t say my kids are smarter than me. I said they are “less stupider”!)

DID YOU KNOW?

Researchers say they’ve discovered an evolutionary “smoking gun” to explain why humans don’t have tails. The question has perplexed researchers since Darwin’s revolutionary research into evolution. Other scientists eventually compiled an overwhelming amount of evidence that suggests claims the 2 species share a common ancestor is irrefutable. Now, a team of New York scientists say our lack of tail can be traced back to a single ape who was born without one as a result of a genetic mutation about 20 million years ago. The researchers say the lack of appendage didn’t prevent it from reproducing—which can also be said for the descendants who kept passing on the anomaly until it became the default for the apes and humans of today.
