BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have reunited amid their divorce. The estranged couple was spotted having brunch together with their children at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Saturday. Page Six reports a source as saying they were spotted in the Polo Lounge “holding hands and kissing”, with their kids “at a separate table.” At one point, the pair was photographed having what appeared to be an intense conversation in a car parked outside of the building. Notably, J Lo wore her engagement ring on her pinky finger. Reps for Lopez and Affleck did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

★ A bombshell new report alleges that the Duchess of Sussex terrifies her staff, with a source describing her as a “dictator in high heels” who has reduced “grown men to tears.” The embarrassing exposé, published by The Hollywood Reporter, is likely to rattle Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who celebrated his 40th birthday over the weekend. A source close to the couple alleges in the article that “everyone’s terrified of Meghan”, and that the high-turnover among the Sussex’s staff may be due to the fact that “She belittles people”, and the couple are “both poor decision-makers” who change their minds frequently.” And although Harry is a “very, very charming person…he’s very much an enabler. And she’s just terrible.”

★ “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is holding on well in its second weekend with a projected $52 million total domestically, just a 53% drop from its $111 million opening. The Tim Burton sequel is set for a running domestic total of $188 million by this morning, just short of the first “Beetlejuice” in 1988, after adjusting for inflation. New horror release “Speak No Evil” came second with about $12 million, followed by “Deadpool & Wolverine” with $5.2 million, bringing its domestic total to $621 million.

★ “American Horror Stories” season 4 has been given an official release date. The spin-off of Ryan Murphy’s scary drama is returning for another set of 5 unconnected episodes on October 15 on Hulu, as part of the “Huluween” event. Plot details are being kept secret for now, but newly-confirmed cast members include “White Lotus” star Michael Imperioli, Henry Winkler, “Insatiable’s” Debby Ryan, “The Arrowverse’s” Victor Garber, and more.

★ After a sobering conversation with a transgender person, Steve-O has decided not to go through with a planned stunt. The “Jackass” star admitted he “missed the mark” on his idea to temporarily get breast implants to perform a series of pranks for his upcoming “Super Dummy Tour”, following a chance encounter with a stranger on the day of his scheduled procedure. According to him, that’s when “the person ringing up my groceries was evidently transgender, and it struck me as a sign from the universe. So, I…had a conversation with this person that had a profound impact on me.” Steve-O also noted his intention with the prank “wasn’t to be hurtful to anybody.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:

• Taylor Swift — surprised fans by releasing a new version of ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart’ on Friday. The Dombresky remix of the song from “The Tortured Poets Department” is available to stream now. Taylor Nation wrote on Instagram: “The I Can Do It With A Broken Heart (@dombresky Remix) is out now and it’s for when you realize everything is going to be okay.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4mjm4t2k
• Justin Timberlake — has issued a public apology and warned about the dangers of drunk driving as part of a plea deal in his DWI case. He addressed his “mistake”, telling media that he failed to live up the standard he sets for himself. He also encouraged people never to get behind the wheel after consuming any amount of alcohol, adding that there are “so many alternatives” to driving.
• Linkin Park – Their new tune ‘The Emptiness Machine’ has jumped to the top of Billboard’s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, leaping from #24, where it debuted a week ago, to #1 on this week’s edition. It is the lead single from “From Zero”, due Nov. 15, the band’s first album featuring new singer Emily Armstrong.
• Jane’s Addiction – A heated confrontation between Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro occurred onstage during their Boston show on Friday. Video shows Farrell punching Navarro before roadies quickly break things up, but the situation caused an abrupt end to the show. Farrell’s wife Etty Lau posted that the singer was frustrated because he felt “his voice was being drowned out by the band…night after night”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/42bma6xd
• Pearl Jam — put their own spin on Ted Nugent’s 1975 single ‘Stranglehold’, in Baltimore on Thursday, changing the lyrics to make it an anti-gun anthem. Video shows Eddie Vedder singing lines such as “I don’t own a gun, I don’t ever want to own a gun.” Nugent is a noted gun enthusiast, who advocates for ownership rights. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mt7uxyub
• Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean — have teamed with Shenandoah for a collab version of their hit ‘Sunday in the South’. Shenandoah singer Marty Raybon said: “We are honored that they would be part of such a meaningful song to us. They sure did carry the mail!” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n8ay2tb

SHOOTING THE BULL

SO EMOJONAL:
So, because apparently we can never have too many, 8 new emojis (or if you want to be a grammar Nazi, 8 new ‘emoji’) are expected to be available to smartphones soon – and if you feel like your need to have a “bags under the eyes” emoticon has been overlooked up until now, your day is coming soon. The Unicode Standard, which is responsible for creating new emojis, announced the new icons last week. Here is what’s coming:
• A face with under-eye bags
• A fingerprint
• A purple splat symbol
• A turnip (because this is often required?)
• A leafless tree
• A harp
• A shovel (Definitely for texting about work…or politics), and
• The official flag of Sark, an island in the English Channel.
For those counting, this new release will bring the total number of characters available to 154,998. On social media, users celebrated the inclusion of the emoji with dark under-eye circles and a bored expression, with one person writing on X: “Representation is important. thank you unicode team.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/9v5599w8
(…and yet, I’ll still keep right on using the same 4 emojis that I know how to find…!)
(I’ve just gotta point out here that if I lived on the island of Sark, I’d be pretty peeved that they gave us things like the ‘Amish farmer’ and the ‘nose-picking’ emoji long before they let us have our flag!)

TATTOO 2.0:
Today is “Tattoo Story Day”, and if you decide you’d like to get this new type of ink done, I’m pretty sure you’ll have a great story to tell. A British tattoo artist is becoming known for his signature “debossed” tattoos, which look like they’ve been carved into the skin. Danial Gulliver, known as ‘Gully’, specializes in a number of different tattoo styles, including miniature ultra-realistic portraits and optical illusions. But he is mostly sought after for his debossed tattoos, which are not only unnerving to look at, they make the observer wonder exactly what went into creating such graphic looking skin art. It’s difficult to describe them without showing a picture, and there are plenty of those on his Instagram profile @gullytattoo. LINK: https://www.instagram.com/gullytattoo/
(They also make me wonder what got into the heads of the people who got one!)
(Shouldn’t they just call those things “Etch-a-sketch”?)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ You’ve heard this story by now, but it is definitely good news that bears repeating. Police in Nashville praised singer Jon Bon Jovi for helping prevent a tragedy by speaking to a woman who was on the ledge of a bridge. He and his team were at the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge as a woman stood precariously over the Cumberland River. Security video shows Bon Jovi and another member of his crew, who were there for a video shoot, slowly approach before arriving at the young woman’s side. He leans over the railing and speaks with the woman, while his colleague steps behind her and begins to touch her shoulder. The potential disaster appears to conclude with the young woman turning around and hugging Bon Jovi, before they help her back over the edge. A few minutes later, she is seen leaving the bridge with the rock star. The event took place on Sept. 10, Suicide Prevention Day.
➢ Our second story about rich dudes doing good things centers around NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley. He donated the first installment of the $1 million he promised to an academy in New Orleans, thanks to 2 groundbreaking young mathematicians. He made his first $100,000 contribution to St. Mary’s Academy, the private school where Calcea Johnson and Ne’Kiya Jackson, cracked a centuries-old mathematical equation. As featured in “60 Minutes”, they solved the Pythagorean Theorem — an equation that had stumped mathematicians for roughly 2,000 years. The segment piqued the interest of Barkley, who decided to make the $1 million grant to help the institution continue to hone the talents of students like Jackson and Johnson.

DID YOU KNOW?
An Arizona resident recently removed a Lego piece from their nose after nearly 3 decades. Andi Norton, who also goes by the name Ben Havoc, is 32 years old, and explained in a social media post how they shoved the Lego “dot” piece up their nose back in the 1990s — when they were about 6, and didn’t realize that it never came out. Andi explained that for years they had endured “multiple breathing issues” that included asthma, as well as a recent diagnosis of Obstructive sleep apnea, until recently blowing their nose while in the shower. Andi, who identifies as they/them said: “I can breathe out of this side of my nose now, and it’s fantastic.” They captioned the story: “I can smell colors now.” (The only downside? As soon as it hit the shower floor, Andi accidentally stepped on it!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2vny7yy5

• “Guacamole Day”, honoring the avocado, the tomato & onion treat that resembles baby poo.
Avocado Fun Facts:
⇒ Avocados are a fruit, not a vegetable.
⇒ Avocados mature on the tree, but only ripen once they are taken off the tree.
⇒ Although the plant dates as far back as 5,000 BC, prior to 1915, it was commonly referred to in California as ‘ahuacate’ and in Florida as ‘alligator pear’.
⇒ On average, 53.5 million pounds of guacamole are eaten every Super Bowl Sunday, enough to cover a football field more than 20 feet thick.

• “Independence Day” in Mexico (“El Grito de Independencia”), celebrating the declaration of independence from Spain in 1810. Fiesta!
• “Stepfamily Day. It’s estimated that 1-in-3 of us is in a stepfamily at some point. It’s now more common to refer to these as ‘blended’ families. (The story of Cinderella ruined the term ‘step-anything’ for everyone!)
• “International Day for Preservation of the Ozone Layer”, as first declared by the UN in 1994.
• “Working Parents Day”. Isn’t parenting work in itself?
• “National Play-Doh Day”, first celebrated in 1980, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Play-Doh’s introduction. Today, play with Play-Doh and share your creations. Did you know that before it found its way to the craft shelf, Play-Doh was sold as wallpaper cleaner?
“National Tattoo Story Day”, when you are encouraged to share the story of how or why you got the tattoo (or tattoos) that you got. Use #NationalTattooStoryDay to share your stories and pics on social media (if it’s in an appropriate spot!).
