BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Elle Macpherson has revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer 7 years ago — and is now finally in remission. The 60-year-old supermodel said she refused to undergo chemotherapy treatment — despite it being strongly recommended by 32 doctors. In her upcoming memoir “Elle: Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself,” the Aussie catwalk star said she took an entirely holistic approach to her diagnosis, a decision that was not well-received by her loved ones, but it gave her “an opportunity to dig deep in my inner sense to find a solution that worked for me.”

★ Reality star Amy Slaton is facing drug and child endangerment charges after being arrested at a Tennessee zoo. On Monday, police responded to calls of a guest being bitten by a camel at Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo. A post from Crockett County Sheriff’s Department says: “Upon arrival, deputies were immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle.” Slaton — who has starred on TLC’s “1,000-Lb. Sisters” since its premiere in 2020 — and Brian Lovvorn were arrested and both face a couple charges of illegal possession, and 2 counts of child endangerment. Both were booked into the Crockett County Jail. [***UPDATE***] Police now say Slaton was the person bitten by a camel, and was removed via stretcher. Psychedelic mushrooms and marijuana were allegedly found in her car

★ Jax Taylor has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. The “Valley” star — who spent most of August in a mental health facility — wrote on Instagram: “After many years of knowing something was wrong but not knowing exactly what it was, I recently learned that I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and PTSD.” He said it’s been “an emotional time” and “a lot to process”, but now he’s home with his son “with a new found sense of peace.” Taylor and his estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright, share 3-year-old Cruz. ★ Britney Spears is hinting at her involvement in an upcoming film project — but it’s not her biopic. Friday, she shared a cryptic message on social media amid hype that Emma Roberts is interested in portraying Spears in the biopic adaptation of Spears’ best-selling memoir “The Woman in Me”. She wrote: “The project I might be doing isn’t a biopic story … it’s a fictional musical where I play an extremely intelligent character!!! It’s flattering to be in such good company like Jon Chu!!!” The post has led to speculation that she might play the narrator in Chu’s forthcoming film version of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat”.

★ Will the next movie from Tolkien’s fantasy series be “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the Wizard”? Ian McKellen said he’d be happy to play ‘Gandalf’ again. And the actor, who played the beloved grey pilgrim in the first 3 films, as well as the “Hobbit” movies, has revealed there is already some magic at work to bring him back. McKellen said he had been told “there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved, and they hope that I’ll be playing him.” The 85-year-old, who recently suffered a serious fall while performing in a stage production, said he doesn’t know when a new film might enter production, but “They better be quick!”

Coke Zero is on the rider, and turkey, and water.” Turkey? Yup: “Boar’s Head turkey, you can’t go wrong…it’s just straight protein, man.”
SHOOTING THE BULL
THE TIME IS RIGHT FOR TIMELEFT:
Apparently, there’s even an app for THIS: “Timeleft” promises to schedule dinner for you and 5 strangers, if you’re into that kind of thing. The app’s developers say that making new friends as an adult can be tough, and it aims to tackle “big-city loneliness” one meal at a time, and is now available in almost 50 countries, including the US and Canada. When you sign up, Timeleft asks questions about your job, personality, lifestyle and dietary preferences, then matches you with 5 supposedly compatible diners. Dinners take place at 7pm on a Wednesday and cost $16 to book. Those who are scheduled to dine together don’t know who they will be meeting until the night before, when the app reveals your dining partners’ industries and zodiac signs. The restaurant is shared the next morning. To help spark conversation, the app unlocks an icebreaker game once the date begins. And after dinner, everyone in that city who has been on a Timeleft date is invited to an after-party at a local bar, where they are able to meet even more strangers.
(…in case the people you just ate with weren’t strange enough!)
(Actually, as an adult, I find it EASY to make friends — unless I’m driving!)

PLACEBO POWER:
Scientists have long-recognized the power of the mind when it comes to healing. But now, researchers say they have found that placebo pills can actually help — even when a patient knows they’re taking a placebo. In the just-published study, carried out during the height of the pandemic, scientists from Michigan State University, Miami University, and the University of California-San Francisco looked into how these “honest pills” (placebos) could be used to provide relief before patients are forced to turn to prescription meds. Two groups of people were assembled, both of which reported moderate levels of stress related to COVID-19. One group was given placebo pills, which they were aware of, and the other was not given pills. After just 2 weeks, the placebo group reported significant reductions in COVID-related stress, lower overall stress levels, and fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression, compared to the other group. The researchers say the result challenges the long-held belief that placebos only work when people are deceived about receiving active treatment.
(Sounds great – except for one thing: I’m pretty sure most of us don’t have “placebo” coverage in our benefit plan!)
(…yet my wife is still strangely opposed to taking a placebo to cure her headaches. Hmmm…)

ADELE OF AN IDEA:
The concert venue constructed specifically for Adele’s recently-completed residency in Munich, Germany could quite possibly become the world’s first portable stadium, and could one day be used to hold gigs for other mega stars, like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. Adele played her final show in Munich on Saturday, and the structure, which has a capacity of 74,000 may be used in the future for shows around the world. Apparently, the arena was built in just a few weeks, and it “wouldn’t be hard” to take it down and re-build it in a different city, according to a music insider quoted in The Sun. The advantage for an artist to use the portable venue for a residency is the chance to create more impressive staging that doesn’t have to be moved from stadium to stadium, similar to the ABBA Arena constructed in London for its digital “Voyage” concert residency.
(So, this is progress? We’re sending the concert hall on tour – and making the artist stay in one place?)
(I’m thinking they might as well park it in Hollywood and have it on standby for J Lo’s next wedding!)

THE 10 MOST-DANGEROUS COSMETIC SURGERIES:
All procedures carry some risk, but these are the ones most-likely to result in complications…according to new research by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. (Ranked in order of seriousness of complications, not frequency of complications.)
1. Eye color change surgery (cosmetic iris implants, laser pigment removal, keratopigmentation): 92.3% complication rate (So, what they’re saying is that they still haven’t quite perfected this one?)
2. Thigh lift: 78% complication rate
3. Brazilian butt lift: 38% complication rate
4. Body lift: 42% complication rate
5. Injectable fillers: 65% complication rate (This explains so much about some of the people I see on the subway every day!)
6. Breast reduction: 38% complication rate (Is “smaller breasts” one of the complications?)
7. Butt implants: 22% complication rate
8. Breast augmentation: 14% complication rate
9. Arm lift (brachioplasty): 21% complication rate
10. Breast lift (mastopexy): 10% complication rate
